I have always been a fan of online learning since the beginning. I really enjoy the ability of learning at my own pace, teaching myself, and applying my learning all in the comfort of my home. It allows me more time to flex my schedule, and keeps my life running smoothly! Now that all being said, I truly admire, and appreciate all the professors that can run a good distance education program. Today was my first day working with the online camp counselor training. I have all the files that need to be put up, and all I have to do is organize them, and build quizzes (or journals). Easy, right? Well, not so much. I spent almost four hours working on the information today, with little to show. Okay, so by little, I mean only two modules. One module is dealing with Camper Behavior Management, and the other with programming (think inspirations, flag raising and camp counselor hunts).
This evening I attended my second ACJL meeting. There were about 15 youth present, and 3 advisers. It was a pretty normal meeting for the most part. They are working on ideas for the style show, themes, decorations and such. This club has been moving from the FCS side of 4-H projects to more a general leadership club for older youth. It is frustrating to watch the club struggle with poor communcation and lack of diverse membership. I am not sure what to suggest to the club. I did get to present a mini session on leadership, (on communications). I had the groups seperate into groups of three. One person was blindfolded, one was unable to speak, and the other was allowed to speak and see. They were given a recipe for "flubber" and a table of materials. I also encouraged the kids to race to see which group would finish first. It was fun to watch the flurry of activity. In the end each kid took home a little bit of flubber, the recipe to make it in their club, and a little better understanding of what it means to communicate in a group setting.
Tomorrow I will be working from home on the camp counselor modules, officer training information, proofing thank you's for farm discovery days, and a few little things here and there. It should be a fairly productive morning!
