Today was the first day of Farm Discovery Days. We had a little over 500 youth from the combined morning and afternoon sessions. The event was a blur mostly, but I was suprised by a number of things. First, the media. I believe we had two different stations at the event, and our event was on the evening nuews in Lima! I was also suprised by the managment versus teaching situation. I wasn't expecting either to lead lots of sessions, but I did miss the interaction with the youth that were there. I took on more of a role as a supervisor, and someone that was problem solving. I did work with the schedule for the day (which for the record didn't seem to work at all!)
After the event, Mark and I headed over to do a mini session on rockets for a north middle school. The group is a 4-H club, but also a type of afterschool program. They are doing the rockets away project this year. Before we did the rockets session we also took the eggs for the embrology project to the teacher. She will be contacting us with any questions, or concerns. I will hopefully be coming back to her classroom to check the eggs and work with the students.
Finally, we had a Junior Fairboard meeting at 7pm. The meeting focused mostly on committee work, and preparation for getting the fair book out soon.
Tomorrow, my goals are to help get more photographs of the event, and to give better directions to the teachers when they arrive with their groups.
