Officer Training

Today was my "big program" for my internship. I spent the majority of the morning packing up each session into bags with all the necessary items to run each station (ie, pencils, paper, packets and worksheets). I also packed up all the decorations, and registrations. We recieved around 59 registrations by the time I left the office to go down to the fairgrounds to set up. It is a blessing that the fairgrounds puts up (and takes down) all the tables and chairs for us. All I had to do was get all the supplies ready for the sessions.
Once the training started, I was able to fully rely on my strong volunteer "staff" I had around 15 adult and youth volunteers. They did registration, signed names on certificates, led games and facilitated sessions. I was able to walk around to each station and observe. I was pleasently suprised by the amount of discussions and collaboration that I saw. I think that the youth enjoyed, and learned a lot from their sessions. Finally, we ended the evening with the candle light ceremony, and prizes! Overall, I was happy with how the evening went, and I hope that they can continue (and improve) this program for many years to come.
